DHELI UNIVERSITY to Replace Indirect Taxes with GST in BA,BCom Syllabus



The Delhi University is planning to include the GST (Goods and Services Tax ) in its curriculum for students of BCom (Hons), BCom and BA Program.

A proposal for this been cleared by the university's academic council and is awaiting a nod from the executive council, officials said.

“Students used to study taxation in three streams – BCom (Hons), BCom and BA Program Commerce-based papers. According to the new proposal, GST will replace the content on other indirect taxes.”

Ø According to the new proposal, GST will replace the content on other indirect taxes.

Ø According to the proposal, students of BCom (Hons) in the sixth semester will be studying GST and Customs Law as a second paper.
  
Ø Students of B Com will study it in the fifth semester as a second paper with the same title.

Ø In the BA Program, students will be studying GST in two papers (paper 3 and paper 4). It will be compulsory only for those BA Program students who have Taxation as an optional subject.



“All the papers will carry 100 marks and it will be compulsory for students of BCom, BCom (Hons) and BA Programme, who choose Taxation as optional (subject),”
           - said Kanojia, an associate professor in the Delhi School of Economics.

GST will also be a part of the commerce and management curriculum in higher education institutions in Uttar Pradeshstate Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma.

GST is a major step in the direction of economic reforms and besides apprising the common people about the new tax regime, there is also a need to include it in the syllabus & it will be included in the management and commerce curriculum, Mr. Sharma said.
